Expert Knowledge Systems

Founded in 1996, Expert Knowledge Systems (EKS) is an independently-structured division of CNS, dedicated to meeting the many pressing educational needs of today’s clinicians and allied professionals.  Known for its Expert Consensus Guideline Series, EKS utilizes a unique content development methodology that harnesses the unbiased expertise of prominent thought leaders in neuropsychiatry.  The latest pharmacological findings and scientific literature are succinctly interpreted and appropriately integrated with the most pertinent issues of day-to-day practice, to provide actionable clinical guidelines.  Certified for CME and CE, EKS’ content forms the basis for many groundbreaking education programs and associated enduring materials.

EKS stands unique above commonplace medical education and treatment guidelines by:

  • Focusing on specific and crucial treatment decisions for which detailed recommendations are usually not made in more generic guidelines, or cannot be answered by controlled research studies, given all the variations and contingencies that arise in clinical practice.
  • Surveying the opinions of a large number of the leading and achieving a remarkably high rate of survey response (at least over 85%), ensuring that recommendations are both authoritative and represent the best in current expert opinion. Such recommendation ensure that changes in the accepted best clinical practice can occur at a faster rate than necessarily slower-paced research efforts which provide scientific documentation for the change.
  • Reporting expert’s responses in a detailed and quantified, yet easily understood manner, so that transparent evaluation of the relative strength of expert opinion supporting the guideline recommendations can occur.

EKS-driven programs are developed and distributed as satellite broadcasts, teleconferences, live symposia, conferences, web-based learning initiatives and audio/visual products, as well as journal supplements, peer-reviewed articles, pocket guides and newsletters. More detail about the methodology and rationale behind the Expert Knowledge Systems can be gained at www.psychguides.com.
