Medical Director of CNS: St. Petersburg, Principal Investigator Margarita Nunez, M.D., leads a team of researchers in numerous outpatient trials, specializing in illnesses affecting the central nervous system as well as medical conditions. Dr. Margarita Nunez demonstrates superior experience in clinical research, conducting over 350 clinical trials across multiple therapeutic areas. Dr. Nunez has notable experience in studying complex medical illnesses (Migraine, Psoriasis, Arthritis and Diabetes), as well as mood (Major Depressive Disorder), anxiety (General Anxiety Disorder), cognitive (Alzheimer’s Disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment), and psychotic (Psychosis in Dementia) disorders.
As a board-certified Internist with added qualifications in Geriatric Medicine, Dr. Nunez maintains licensure in Florida. Her early education in Psychology (Hunter College, City University of New York) with medical training at New York Medical College, was followed by formal training in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics specialization at the University of South Florida. Dr. Nunez served as medical consultant and staff physician at Charter Hospital, Bay Pines VA Medical Center, James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, and Thomas Langley Medical Center, as well as Associate Medical Director at the Hospice of Hillsborough County. With her clinical research experience in Psychiatry, Dr. Nunez has gained expertise in investigations across patient age (adult and elderly), trial design (open, blinded, acute therapy, relapse prevention, dose finding, efficacy augmentation) and special medical and psychiatric populations. From her extensive research experience in Psychiatry, Dr. Nunez has gained expertise in investigations across psychopharmacologic formulations (oral, transdermal, extended release, and intravenous preparations), medical morbidities (Sexual Dysfunction, Post-Menopausal Bleeding, Chronic Pain, Obesity, Diabetes), patient age (adult and elderly), trial design (open, blinded, acute therapy, relapse prevention, dose finding), and special psychiatric populations (treatment resistant). |

The CNS center in St. Petersburg is a well-designed research facility, providing examination rooms; dual-locking, limited-access medication storage (room temperature, refrigerated and -20 degrees); draw/processing laboratory with dedicated sample storage units (room temperature, refrigerated, -20 and -70 degrees); ECG equipment; access to radiology facilities (X-ray, MRI, CT); emergency protocols (rapid response cart, local ER facilities); and high-speed Internet access to support Electronic Data Capture activities. Patients and monitors will benefit additionally from the Center’s convenience (near Tampa International Airport and major expressway systems) and monitor-dedicated space with Internet connectivity.
